New Traditional Mexican Doll Workshop for Families at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (March 17, 2021) - Starting this month, the AAA Five Diamond Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit will offer a new Mexican Doll Workshop. The 90-minute activity invites the resort's littlest guests to design their very own Mexican rag doll using customary colored ribbons and fabrics. In addition to providing a unique bonding experience for families, the activity was created to support the local community and honor the indigenous women who started the craft many years ago.
Mexican rag dolls, also known as "Marías," originate from the state of Querétaro, in central Mexico. First made by Otomí and Mazahua indigenous women to protect children from evil spirits, the dolls traditionally feature an indigenous dress, braids, and bright colored ribbons and embroidered fabrics. Now, the dolls are made and sold throughout Mexico and are recognized as one of the most popular toys for children.
The Mexican Dolls Workshop is one of many activities for families at the resort. Other unique offerings include an Alebrijes Workshop to make signature spirit animal crafts, Baby Concierge, Teens' and Kids' Clubs, Gourmet Baby Food, and new luxury poolside amenities for kids.
